About six months ago Mrs. Totally and me saw the need to start a support group. We have about five of us, all with various cult backgrounds. We soon realized they all claim to be the true religion with a different name but all had the same M.O. as a cult. My advice is do a lot of research before starting one. Still Totally ADD

Are Jehovah's Witnesses selfish??
by stuckinarut2 inis the average jehovah's witness selfish and self-centred?.
i know, i know...many will object and say "no - preaching is the most selfless thing a jw can do.
it saves others lives...".

As a jw if you are in need of food and no money you are told to go to the local food bank run by a church. If your mate or a close love one dies make sure they don't die when a convention is taking place. After all going to a convention is more important than going to a funeral. If a elderly one in your congregation is sick and needs help makes sure they call there adult kids first to get help. Remember field service, meetings, convention and all the busy work the Borg throws on them is more important than showing love and helping someone else. Still Totally ADD

Being taught to explain rape when a kid
by purrpurr indoes anyone else recall in the 80s/90s that when the minor/child blood issue was discussed the jw children were taught to say that being forced to have blood would be like rape?
and then had to be able to explain what rape is?
apparently there was a court case were the drs were trying to get a court order to force a blood transfusion on a jw child, and the child said it would be like rape to her and the judge asked her to explain what rape is to see if she understood what she was saying.. that went round my cong at least as a "fine witness " and all the parents were encouraged to have their kids practice the whole "explain rape" thing.. anyone else remember this?.

The wt. has never vauled life. Front page of the wt. pictures of children who die from not taking a blood transfusion making them martyrs. Sexaul abuse of children is bad but we cover it up. Women need to stay with their husband even though he beats the shit out of you. Children going out door to door by themselves being subjected to some very bad people. Finally they teach thier God is going to kill everyone on this planet except them.
Yes I do remember being instructed to teach our children how to please their case not to have a blood transfusion. Still Totally ADD

Very funny about being carded at your age. It's because here in the U.S. we age faster so we may look old but we may be only 18 years old. LOL. Take care. Still Totally ADD

Anyone pissed at their parents for raising you in the cult?
by blownaway inmy mother was not the most emotionally stable person.
she was a follower and instilled in me the idea we were better than those worldly people.
its hard to go to school as a child and you can not be friends outside of school, you can not celebrate any holidays, and you are told all these people are going to die.

Not pissed but i wish they would have found another way to have saved their marriage. They were both throw away children and they needed structure in their life. As a cult the wt. was able to give them that. All the way to the end of my dads life he would offten say to me if it wasn't for finding the truth their marriage would not have lasted. He was very proud of that fact. Even though I went through a lot of abuse in the cult I am not mad at my parents for raising me in it.
But I have in the past beat myself up for raising my kids in the cult. Any anger from them for being raised in the cult is very understandable. I just wish I would have woken up earlier in my life. I can't change the past but I can be there for my children now. Still Totally ADD

People are nice and life is awesome.
by OneEyedJoe ini got invited as a +1 to someone's house yesterday to watch the fireworks.
i'd never met the hosts, and it seemed that most of the people in the group only knew one or two other people there.
yet i felt more genuine friendship from everyone there than i ever felt at any jw gathering.

How true it is. Last night was our third annual get together with close friends to watch fireworks. Just good conversation, food and fireworks. Not once since I have left the Borg has anyone that I know tried to take advantage of me. Unlike what I experienced in the borg many times. Actually we talk about tight pants and pillows and how Cults are sex crazy. Lol. People for the most part just want to live a peaceful life. Only the us against them mentally disease Borg thinks otherwise. Still Totally ADD

Concerned Parent
by ConcernedParent ini'm writing for some advice from former jws.
my family is christian, and my 15yo daughter is "dating" a jw boy.
(the quotes are because they aren't old enough to actually go out on dates... they consider themselves bf/gf and have hung out and gone places with each other, but always with parents, family, etc.

All good comments. Like all teenagers their hormones are in over drive. For Jw teenage boys and girls they are under a lot of fear control and guilt for this. This experience of having a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship is very exciting and dangerous for those in this cult. Even more so if they are raised in a very strict jw household. Ignorance about sex, spiritual abuse, physical abuse and sexual abuse is the norm for these young ones. Their world is a world of the thinkings of the cult. Dating a person outside the cult is a very rebellious by this boy and it may be his first time he is experiencing a freedom from the cult.
I feel sorry for him for if he is truly in a Jw family and if he gets caught he will be in a lot of trouble. If he is baptized in the Jw faith he could be disfellowship or excommunicated from the cult and shunned by all he knows. He is playing with cult like fire. Be kind to him but at the same time try to get as much information you can on him and learn more about how destructive this cult is. Good luck to you on this subject. If you have any more questions please come back to this board and ask them. Still Totally ADD
